Clicks and pops
I am currently doing voice recording on two different computers. One is an Acer Extensa laptop with Windows 7 Service Pack 1 and the other is a Gateway desktop with Windows Vista Service Pack 2. On the laptop, I'm using Audacity 1.3.12 and on the desktop I have the latest download of Audacity 1.3. I'm using an M-Audio Nova mic with an M-Audio Fast Track Pro digital interface. The recordings sound great, except for occasional and random clicks or pops on playback. I do not hear them when recording and I don't even see them on the waveforms. I tried a couple of things--the click and pop remover on Audacity (no effect)--and going to Preferences and switching between MME and Sound Driver (no effect). Any other suggestions? Thanks. (By the way, I originally started using Audacity in 2008 on an old Dell desktop and never had this issue.)

Re: Clicks and pops
Stop, stop. Your clicks may not actually be in the show. You may have a computer management problem. We wrote something about this and I'm looking for it. Koz

Thanks for your help. I checked out the document--maybe I missed it, but I didn't see anything that specifically addressed my issue.

If you play the same track several times, do the clicks occur in the same places each time you play?rivera42 wrote:The recordings sound great, except for occasional and random clicks or pops on playback.

Re: Clicks and pops
Here's the strange part: I listened to a track I just recorded--played it back several times and heard the pops in the same place each time. Then I went back and listened to a couple of tracks I recorded this morning which originally contained pops and now they sound clear.

Re: Clicks and pops
I bet if you export those files and play them on the other computer, they're fine. That would be good to check.

Re: Clicks and pops
The tracks that I record are sent to an FTP site, so--using my other computer--I went to the site and listened to several of the tracks and, unfortunately, still heard clicks and pops. FYI--in a one or two minute span, you might hear three or four instances of the noise. Again, I've had it show up on recordings made on both computers.
Thanks again for your help on this.

Re: Clicks and pops
I tried sending a PM with a track attached but it would not allow an aup or mp3 extension.
