will not record wave form thru interface, tascam

Audacity records when i go thru mike jack on computer, windows vista. when i tried to use tascam interface, the meters will move on audacity but no waveform or audio is recorded. tha interface itself seems to work fine. it will send audio to the built in recoding system that is already on computer. i made certain that that I had selected the correct input for audio on audacity also. I am using the latest version of audacity for windows vista and 7. do you have any suggestions

Are you sure that it's not just recording very quietly?
If it's recording a flat blue line, try applying the Amplify effect to the recording to see if it is really silence or just very low level.
(If it's recording really quietly, the sound quality is likely to be rubbish, but then we can probably do something to improve that if it's the case).
