I saw where one can use Audacity to record anything that comes thru the speakers... I had 1.2.6, so installed it along with the Lame mp3. Absolutely nothing!
So I came here to the website and downloaded the 1.3.13 beta; installed and still NOTHING!! Getting very frustrated by this time.
Came to the forum and found a reply by alatham on Tue July 31,2007:
You need to set Windows up properly so Audacity can access your soundcard. Double click the volume icon in the taskbar (if it's not there you'll have to go through the control panel to get to it). This is what Audacity calls the Microsoft Sound Mapper. Click Options -> Properties and make sure all the outputs you want to use are checked, then click the button to adjust volume for recording and make sure all your inputs are selected.
So I went into my tray volume icon, options, properties... sure enough there were all those buttons and check marks to select. But the recording button was GREYED OUT. Above the buttons was a drop-down... and in there was the Realtek output and input... so I chose the input... and VOILA!! there was the recording button selected and all I needed to do was add a check to the 5th item, click OK... tried recording again... AND IT WORKS!!!!!
So I have a GREAT THANK YOU to alatham for posting that reply way back in the summer of 2007!
