Mixing vocal track and instrumental track together

Post by wraithseeker » Mon Nov 28, 2011 7:54 am

When I load the vocal track and instrumental track together in Audacity and play them, the instrumental track is very loud as compared to the vocal track.

I tried using Chris's compresser to make the vocal track louder but the instrumental track is still too loud.

How would I be able to mix the vocal and instrumental track together? I do not know what values I should input for Normalization (-3DB) and Noise removal ( I tried it once made all the amplitude close to 0 using default settings). They don't seem to go well together with one another due to this.

You have two mono tracks one above the other, right? Leave the vocal track alone and stop using "Normalize" and the other tools. Start over with fresh tracks (you did save archive copies of the original performances, right? Use WAV, not MP3.)

Use the volume sliders to the left of the instrument track to reduce the level so that it's more harmonious with the vocal.

How did you get the two tracks? Play the instrumental part and then sing to it?

I usually play the instrumental version and sing along with it.
