Windows XP shuts down while recording vinyl [SOLVED]

XP version of Audacity. After about 2/3 minutes of recording Windows XP closes unexpectedly. Should there be a Windows update or something.

I think there should be an inspection of your hard drive. Audio production fills up your drive in a hurry. Once the room on the drive shrinks to a certain amount, there isn't enough to run Audacity or Windows.
-- Defrag
-- Right Click Start > Explore > Right Click Local Drive C: > Properties (Used, Remaining)
-- Tools > Error Checking & Defragmentation
You should maintain at least 10% free space and more is better. If your drive is up at 99% full, you need to shovel out some work or back it up and make room.

While it is sensible to check drive space and disk fragmentation it does not usually cause blue screen Windows crashes. Critically low memory might, but still not very likely. Bad drivers are the usual cause. Please read:

I ran a defrag, have 45% space and loaded the 1.3 Beta Audacity and all is fine.
