Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: 1.3.13 causing recurring reboots [SOLVED]
Downloaded 1.3.13 beta (unicode) and installed it on Windows XP SP3 machine (desktop). Any time we try to open Audacity, the computer goes and reboots. Have the 1.3.13 version on another computer (laptop) and have no problem using Audacity on that computer.
Recorded some music last week with the laptop and want to move it to the desktop, but cannot do so with the rebooting problem. Help?

It literally comes up through the Windows login screens like you just turned it on?
Is this a homemade machine?
Are you trying to run Audacity over a network?
We should probably wait for the heavy Windows elves for this one, but I would be running the Windows Memory Test. Causing the operating system to collapse is pretty serious.

Re: 1.3.13 causing recurring reboots
Certainly sounds like a rogue PC - 1.3.13 (and Alpha 1.3.14) have never caused this on either of my XP machines.

Yes, it immediately goes to a blank screen and starts the reboot.steve wrote: Does the computer shut down to reboot immediately?
No time for any error messages.
Starting Audacity from the desktop icon.
Yes, 1.2.xx ran in the past just fine.

Re: 1.3.13 causing recurring reboots
Once again, system crashes are almost always driver issues. Could be your video driver if you are having trouble with the web browser. It could be a Windows or Creative update that needs to be rolled back, but first you need to know what to roll back.
Please look at the memory dump file. To see where the dump is, right-click over My Computer > Properties which should bring you to "System Properties". Click "Settings" in the "Startup and Recovery" panel.
You can analyse the memory dump fairly easily by downloading WhoCrashed:
http://www.resplendence.com/downloads
Before using WhoCrashed, you’ll have to make sure that Microsoft Debugging Tools for Windows has been installed. If not, WhoCrashed will give you instructions.

Re: 1.3.13 causing recurring reboots
I really can't help, but a full system crash is usually a driver. That's why "kernel mode" drivers are supposed to be certified and digitally signed. A "user-mode" application isn't supposed to be able to crash Windows...
I don't know what drivers Audacity loads, and I'm sure your soundcard drivers are working fine with other applications...

Re: 1.3.13 causing recurring reboots [SOLVED]
Thank you, thank you!
We just finished installing the drivers for the SB Live! sound card and Audacity is no longer crashing the computer.
Will keep WhoCrashed on hand for future reference (although I hope we never need it).
The sound card is an oldie, but a new computer isn't in the budget for the forseeable future.
Again, thanks.
