Sorry, I've been looking around for an answer to this particular problem, but haven't seen it anyplace else. I've got some songs recorded from last night in their basic AUP file and the data file is in the same folder. For some reason I can't get it to open correctly. When I double click the AUP project Audacity will try to open, but the program will say that it does not recognize the file type associated with the file....

I haven't seen anything like this at all before, and I've been using Audacity for a few years now. The computer did get unplugged and the battery died during the recording process, however I recovered the project with no problem and then saved it last night...So I'm not sure what the dealio is.

Thanks for any help you can give me. I've tried importing it as raw data, but I can't click on each individual little data bit and open them in order and all that...

Any way that I can get this stuff recovered would be awesome, thanks a lot.

Are you using Audacity 1.2 or a 1.3 version? Please give us the three-section version number at Help > About Audacity, or better still, attach the .aup file ("Upload attachment" underneath the message "Preview/Submit" buttons).

Have you tried File > Open from inside Audacity to open the .aup file?

My bad, I actually am using the 1.3 Beta. I'm also going to attach the AUP file.

Thanks for the help and everything. There's nothing too important in the file, but it would be nice to have it to listen to. This is like a sound test day with my new band, and we were mic-ing all the instruments individually and stuff today, and I'm very curious to have a point of reference to work with.

The file is corrupt.
I've opened it in a hex editor and the file contents are just zeros.
Is this a file that you've tried to recover after deletion?

Did you get a proper waveform in Audacity when you restarted Audacity and said "yes" to recover the project?

If yes, it was a mono recording and the .au files in the _data folder are not corrupted, you may be able to sort the .au files into timestamp order, rename them while time sorted into a contiguous name sequence then use the 1.2 Crash Recovery tool. If it was a stereo recording (but not edited) you may get a recovered file but the channels may be transposed here and there.
