I'm trying to record from an electronic keyboard to my computer using Audacity. I'm using Windows 7, and the output jack on the keyboard is connected to the microphone jack on my computer with a standard audio cable.
When I press a key on the electronic keyboard, Audacity records it okay but there is an annoying delay between when I press a key on the keyboard and when I hear the sound through the speakers on the computer. I've tried many combinations of settings on Audacity's Devices and Recordings tabs in Preferences. What must I do to eliminate that delay so that I hear the note as soon as I press the key on the keyboard?

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: Annoying delay
That's the first problem. Those two are very different connections. For one thing, the keyboard is probably stereo and Mic-In is mono.output jack on the keyboard is connected to the microphone jack on my computer
You can connect your keyboard (or mixer) to the computer using one of these stereo UCA-202 USB adapters and that will solve the delay problem as well. Monitor from the UCA-202, not the computer. Switch to Monitor On.
