I'm trying to record from a stereo cassette to my laptop on Audacity. My attempts to turn Stereo on
in Audacity have not resulted in a stereo signal being recorded. When I listen to the output of the
cassette recorder on earbuds, it's definitely stereo.
What gives? I read something about "Stereo Mix" and enabling that. I tried and it's not on my laptop,
or the right driver's not there.
Should this be so hard? I even tried another windows-based PC and had the same result, using
a digi002 rack (XP OS), and still no stereo.
I'm coming out of a stereo mini port on the cassette deck, into the mic jack on my laptop. There
is no other input I can see (Lenovo Y510 Windows 7).
Has anyone solved this?
Thanks!
Rick

Re: Recording in Stereo?
Many laptops have mono microphone sockets and are incapable of recording stereo. How do you know that the microphone input on your laptop is a stereo input?spinweb wrote:I'm coming out of a stereo mini port on the cassette deck, into the mic jack on my laptop.
Windows 7 has its own recording settings in the Windows Control Panel. Each recording device has its own settings. If your microphone input is capable of recording in stereo, you may need to set it to stereo in the Windows Control Panel.
You've posted in the Audacity 1.2.x part of the forum, but for Win 7 you should be using Audacity 1.3.13 (Unicode).

Re: Recording in Stereo?
I assume that means that you are using Audacity 1.3.13, so I've moved the topic to the 1.3.x part of the forum.spinweb wrote:Thanks for your prompt response. Shall I repost this in the correct area?
