Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

secuencer and drum machine

Post by peyoti » Thu Nov 10, 2011 7:26 pm

Hi,

Can somebody please recommend the best midi secuencer to use when working with audacity 1.3 on window 7.
also recommend the best drum machine (& samples library etc) software to use all 3 as a package? (free source, ideally, but all recommendations are really appreciated).

I am working on a new album that I'd like to record entirely with audacity with a group called 'peyoti for president' (http://www.peyoti.com if anyone is interested) amongst other project.

All your advice and assistance is appreciated.
BIG thanks
Pietro

For Windows, have a look here:

(I use Linux so the programs that I'm familiar with are different)

Thanks Steve,

Anybody else who works with windows and can recommend? Especially if there are programs which will sync-in and run together with audacity (but any recommendations and ideas are appreciated..)

Big thanks!

Audacity cannot sync with other programs. You need to start it recording then start the playback of the other software. There will be some leading silence at the beginning of the recording but that can be trimmed off later. To synchronise the recording with sequencers (on Windows) you would probably need to use an integrated MIDI/Audio program such as Sonar, Cubase, Reason or Reaper, or use applications that support "Rewire". Audacity does not currently support Rewire.

On Linux you could use Ardour to record and this can be synchronised with other programs such as Hydrogen drum machine and Rosegarden sequencer by using "Jack Transport" (similar to Rewire). Unfortunately Audacity does not currently support Jack Transport.

You said "To synchronise the recording with sequencers (on Windows) you would probably need to use an integrated MIDI/Audio program such as Sonar, Cubase, Reason"

Presumably, I could use Ableton also as a MIDI/Audio program (the reason I ask is that I have an ableton license but nevber got round to using/learning it, but it won't cost me anything - just much time learning it I guess).
Many thanks
Pietro
