Cannot record with USB Cassette

Post by maverick1972 » Wed Nov 09, 2011 6:57 pm

What am I doing wrong here? I work for a small church and have been given the responsibility of transferring all our cassettes to MP3.

I purchased a USB cassette which worked the first time that I used it but hasn't since. Anything that I attempt to record is flatlined. I have checked the following and switched to each one of them individually under edit/preferences/audio i/o/Recording Device.

Microsoft Sound Mapper Input
Microphone High Definition Audio
Microphone High Definition Audio
Line In High Definiton Audio
Microphone Array (USB Audio Con

The best case scenario I've had thus far is flatline with a high pitch tone on Microphone Array USB Audio.

Any help would be most appreciative.

Thank You

Make sure that you connect the USB cassette before you open Audacity. You should then get a USB option in the recording devices.

There's a tutorial about USB turntables and much of it also applies to USB cassettes http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Reco ... turntables

Thank you for the response. However, I do have a USB option in the recording devices. It's listed above as Microphone Array USB Audio. This is the connection that just seems to give me a high pitch tone.

Thanks

The only way it seems to work is by using the 3.5mm headphone jack and recording by using the line-in.

I cannot record at all by way of USB or I get a high pitch tone. :x

Can we just check that the "Microphone Array (USB Audio Con" actually is the USB cassette.
If it is, then it should appear in Audacity if the USB cassette is connected when you launch Audacity, and not appear in Audacity if it is not connected to the computer.

Yes, That is indeed confirmed. There can be no doubt that the USB cassette is in fact the Microphone Array (USB). I'm stumped. I have no idea why it is doing this.

It's starting to look like a hardware fault.
