I can't record with certain headphones?

I use Audacity to record audio for my youtube channel. One day it stopped letting my record with my Astro A40s with 2 3.5mm jacks designed for PC. I could only record with USB Headphones. How can I record with these again? I know it works, because I can still use them for Skype and Steam and things. Also, I'm on the beta of Audacity. PLEASE HELP!!

To get that to work, you have to tell the Windows Control Panel and Audacity in the preferences where the microphone and headphones are.

Did this fail right after you started using Skype or some other communications software? They're famous for reassigning sound pathways and then not putting them back later.

Also, sometimes after you use the USB service, the sound channels become scrambled and don't come back to normal when you unplug.

Exactly what doesn't work? You can't talk or hear? Do you have them plugged in the right way 'round? Go look. I won't tell anybody.

It wont record audio. I can hear audio played back though. And my mic works on skype and steam so that's not it.

Skype and Steam may be the reason it stopped working in Audacity.

Make sure both of those are closed and not minimized or sleeping.

Restart Audacity if you change anything serious like that. You should know that if you click once anywhere in the red recording meters they will wake up and meter your recording sound -- bounce to your voice -- without you going into Record.

You might need to go into Start > Control Panels > Sound in Windows and set the Mic-In connection there. I'm fuzzy on the commands since I'm not next to a Windows machine to look.
