How do you change Audacity 1.3,( im in the right room), windows 7, on a Walmarts $349 Compaq, recording levels or all levels back to Default. I have messed with something, (exteral mike) adapter plugged in the side, sounds like im singing into a barrel.

....sounds like im singing into a barrel.
That can be caused by singing into the wrong side of a directional microphone, or by singing into the
end of a side-address mic. Or perhaps, by an impedance mismatch.
I don't know how to reset the defaults... Are you saying this setup was working before? The software configuration shouldn't affect the "character" or "tone" of the sound.

What kind of mic? What kind of adapter?

You need to reset your Preferences - see this article from the Wiki:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Audac ... o_defaults
There is an outstanding Feature Request for an "easy reset" - but new features will not be added until 2.0 is released as the developers are currently working on trying to fix a couple of hard to find bugs in 1.3.

You should also replug all your audio connections. You can odd sound like that if one of your connectors isn't plugged all the way in. You could also have a damaged cable. The hollow sound and the buzz could be coming from the same place.
As you unplug things swab with a paper towel moistened in glass cleaner or vodka. Dry before plugging back in.

im singing into a barrel.
You can get that effect if you run into Windows conferencing services. Windows thinks you're trying to hold a phone call with somebody, not sing. It thinks your singing or playing is "air conditioning noise" and tries to cancel it out. That's the hollow sound.
