Tracks

I have been recording for several months now and thought that I had the intricacies of Audacity pretty well worked out. Well a problem developed yesterday and I'll be darned if I can figure it out. I even went so far as to reinstall the program. But to no avail.

It concerns the tracks and the track control panel of Audacity. In the past, the track and the wave would be centered and the track control panel would be completely visible. Regardless of how many tracks there might be in a recording session only one would be visible at a time along with it's track control panel.

Now any number of tracks appear along with the matching control panel in the one panel. They keep getting smaller and smaller with each new track and it is very annoying. Incidentally the wave for the first track of the recording session is well above center laterally. I'm sure that I must have inadvertently flicked a button somewhere causing this to happen and I just can't figure out what to do.

Does anyone have any ideas? That is if you can make any sense of this!

Thank-you. Thank-you!!!

Go have a look in your Audacity preferences in the Tracks section. There is a check-box in there that says "Automatically fit tracks vertically zoomed" - make sure that this is not checked on or turn it off if it is so.

Thank you for you very quick response! Unfortunately there is no check box that says "Automatically fit tracks vertically zoomed" Sure would be great if there were because that seems to be the problem I am suffering. Incidentally I am using 1.3.13-beta

But golly, how good of you to respond so quickly. I hope you have another suggestion

go to Edit > Preferences

Tracks should be the sixth item down in the white pane on the left hand side of the dialog box - click on that

Thank-You for your patience. I finally found the correct check box, it was indeed checked and I unchecked it and everything seems to be working fine now. I can't tell you the amount of anguish this caused; trying to find out why the program has been working for months and then all of a sudden it stopped working. Somehow I inadvertently clicked the box, not realizing what I had done.

I am indebted to you and I Thank-you very much.
