I've absolutely loved recording radio broadcasts, primarily sports related, with Audacity in Windows XP.
I use it as a form of DVR where I can record a game, or a post game interview and listen to it later. Or watch on TV & hear what the radio announcers were saying later.
I just inherited a Vista laptop and installed the 1.3.13 Beta version.
But I couldn't find the familiar "stereo mix" on any drop down menu. I've used various versions in the past, including 1.3.12 on my older desktop. They all had that option.
It seems I read on here some time ago that the newer versions of Windows may not work for recording streaming audio anymore.
But as I was playing around with the drop down menus, I eventually stumbled upon something that seemed to work. But I don't remember if I changed something or what happened, but I cannot seem to find that option any more. I've tried every combination and permutation I can think of multiple times but no go.
Anyone have any idea what I'm doing wrong? Or is there some sort of fix I might be able to use.
Thanks for any help.
Stero mix in Vista? For streaming audio recording

Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

On some systems, it's diabled by default and other systems it's just not available. There is some information here on how to enable it.
On desktop systems, you can hook-up a cable between line-out and line-in (plus a Y-adapter to connect the speakers too). But, most laptops only have mic in.
Otherwise, you can try Freecorder (FREE!!!) Total Recorder ($19 USD & up), or Virtual Audio Cable ($30 USD).

It's harder and harder to find "Stereo Mix" on newer computers. There isn't one on Macs.
If you make it through all these help pages and still no joy, there's always Total Recorder which makes its own configurations and ignores Windows. You need to write a check.

Thanks guys. It looks like I need to do a bit of reading.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. The links are greatly appreciated as well.
Hopefully I can "Get 'er done" before the Saturday game.

I was in luck! It looks like the sound card had that option, but it was disable for some reason. It was even invisible. That seems awfully weird. I wonder if that's intentional on Microsoft's part.
Anyway, that first link provided a quick & easy "How To".
Thanks again! This was always a key feature of Audacity for me.

It makes your computer slightly unstable and interferes with its primary job as a corporate computation and communication tool. Skype to the home office in London with the latest sales and capitol expenditure spreadsheets -- from Côte d'Azur where I've been slaving for weeks.it was disable for some reason.
It also gives you access to all that content that Microsoft and other companies want to sell you.
