URGENT HELP NEEDED!
I have to give an important presentation on Saturday morning but have a problem. I recorded a clip for a voice over, saved it as the Microsoft WAV file and it wokred beautifully. I then recorded two more, saved them in the same way but the files were empty. I have saved the projects and so have the recorded files (which play fine through Audacity) but have run out of ideas as to how to get the recorded clip into a file that I can then link with the PowerPoint. Does anyone have any idea why the file is not saving.

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED!
When you play your work, do you get the bouncing green sound meters and blue waves on the timeline like this?

Audacity will not Save a WAV sound file. To get one of those you have to Export one.
File > Export > WAV (Microsoft) Signed 16-bit PCM.
How are you recording your voice?

Hi Kaz. Sorry I didn't explain that I am trying to export to the WAV file, not save it as one but nothing is happening. I record OK as I can play back a perfect recording whilst I am in Audacity. I then ex[port and the file is blank. Crazy!

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED!
Are these recorded tracks in the same project? And is the exported file a valid file of the expected length but with silent audio, or is the file just a few bytes in size when you look at in Explorer (meaning it's not valid and doesn't play anywhere, even as silence)?willson wrote:I am trying to export to the WAV file, not save it as one but nothing is happening. If the tracks are in the same project, try clicking above the Mute / Solo buttons in one of the tracks to select all of it, ensure the Mute button is off because that will prevent export, then File > Export Selection. If that works, do the same for the other track you want to export.
If each track is in its own separate project, unmuting the track and File > Export should be all you need.

No I saved them as two separate ones.Gale Andrews wrote:Are these recorded tracks in the same project?
one is about 21 seconds and the other 14. It looks pretty silent when I open it in Audacity! There are no wave thingies, just a blankGale Andrews wrote:And is the exported file a valid file of the expected length
I'll try this as soon as I get home. It is odd that it isn't mute when it plays in Audacity but certainly is when I try it outside of the programme.Gale Andrews wrote:If the tracks are in the same project, try clicking above the Mute / Solo buttons in one of the tracks to select all of it, ensure the Mute button is off because that will prevent export, then File > Export Selection. I will keep fingers crossed and let you know what transpires. Thanks for taking the time to reply.Gale Andrews wrote:If each track is in its own separate project, unmuting the track and File > Export should be all you need.

Re: URGENT HELP NEEDED!
How long are the recordings supposed to be?
Do you get an error when exporting, if so what does it say?
If you are still stuck, I suggest posting a screenshot of one of the projects. CTRL + F in Audacity to fit the project to the screen, then ALT + PrtScr to capture the project window. Open Paint, paste, and save as a PNG file. Use "Upload attachment" underneath the message posting buttons to upload the image, then place it inline.
