Hello, I have tried again and again to find a solution to this, but I cannot find an answer. I am using the latest Beta version of Audacity 1.3, and when I try to record with my microphone most of the sound does not get picked up at all, and the sound that does it highly distorted. I used to have Audacity 1.2 on an older computer and with the same microphone everything worked fine. I don't know what I am doing wrong. The sound will suddenly stop getting recorded if it is too quiet, I supposed. Please help, I would appreciate it, and I hope not to have wasted anyone's time.

You might have two problems. If Audacity stops recording dead when you stop speaking, that could be Audacity Preferences > Recording > Sound Activated Recording. Deselect that.

If you're on a newer Windows machine, you could be struggling with Windows Conference Services.

Depending on the microphone, it may not work with your new computer. What's the microphone and the computer?

Oh my goodness, I am using Windows 7, so when I saw a post about Windows Vista I thought it wouldn't work. Thanks, problem is completely gone. Here I thought I was helping myself by check all the enhancements and such. Thanks again!
