Multichannel Recording on Audactity 1.3.13

I recently purchased an Alesis MultiMix 8 USB 2.0 which supports sending 10 channels to a PC via USB. I have installed the latest WDM driver from the Alesis website on my Windows Vista laptop. I can record one channel, no problem; but have not found a way to record more than that. There is a wiki page (http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Multi ... _Recording) that states it is possible to adjust the Audio I/O preferences to include multiple channels to be recorded, but 1.3.13 preferences doesn't have an Audio I/O tab. And the two tabs that might apply to this issue; Devices and Recording, don't provide any means to extend the range of channels. Any ideas or suggestions?

Thanks!

Set the number of channels in Audacity Preferences > Devices.

Koz: Thanks for the quick reply. Only choices there are 1 (Mono) and 2 (Stereo).

By selecting the 2 (Stereo) option, I get the first two channels as input. But I don't see any of the other channels.

Could you look in the Audacity "Help menu > About Audacity" and check the full version number. Is it "Audacity 1.3.13 Unicode"?
Which version of Windows?

Steve: It is 1.3.13-Beta (unicode) on Windows Vista.

Unfortunately it appears that although the Windows drivers on Win XP for the Multimix work with Audacity, the Windows drivers in Vista don't. http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Multi ... ed_devices

The ASIO drivers for the Multimix are reported to work correctly on Vista, but unfortunately Audacity can not be shipped with ASIO support for legal reasons.
Probably the easiest thing to do would be to use another program for recording (one that supports ASIO, such as Cubase, Sonar or Reaper). You can still use Audacity for editing and mixing if you wish, by exporting the recorded tracks as WAV files, then importing them into Audacity.
