Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Can't get rid of Audacity as a start up program

Post by Soundwave » Mon Sep 05, 2011 1:27 am

I'm using version 1.2.6 on an off line PC that's running Win98se. Somewhere in the forum, a person suggested having Audacity come on right after boot up. I can't remember why but I thought I'd try it. Unfortunately it makes Win98 a bit unstable. I tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it (didn't see it in start up) but it persists in being first in line. Must be some kind of a command hidden somewhere, that I can't find. Any suggestions that would help me get things back to normal would be appreciated. Thanks, Alan :?

I didn't quite follow that. You uninstalled Audacity and it starts on computer boot anyway? How did you uninstall Audacity?

You know you posted an Audacity 1.2 question in the 1.3 forum?

I suppose you can get rid of it by clicking "Run" in the start menu, typing "msconfig" and unchecking the program in the autostart tab.

You didn't answer the question. Audacity 1.2 had a peculiar installation process.

So what did you do to make Audacity start right after boot up?

I wish you hadn't asked that. I didn't write down or type a note as to how it was done. Didn't turn the PC on for a couple of weeks. Totally forgot. Oldtimers I guess.

It's been a really long time since I've used Win 98.
Have a look in the C:WindowsProgram FilesStartup folder.
Did you put Audacity, or a link to Audacity in there?
