Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Bug : Import 0 Bytes raw audio file causes 1.3.13 to crash

Post by wooosh » Thu Aug 25, 2011 8:09 am

Version: 1.3.13-beta, German localization
OS: Windows XP SP3
What am I trying to do:
1. Click on File -> Import -> raw data
2. Choose a file that contains 0 Bytes data.
3. Choose any settings, click import -> Audacity crashes

(Bug 35) Crash on importing audio:
What is the size of the file being imported in MB or GB? 0 Bytes
What is your project rate bottom left of the Audacity window? Does not matter, but originally was 8225Hz
Are you using 'on demand' loading? Don't know what that is..

I'm idling in #audacity on freenode as user kai_ for the next couple days in case anyone needs further information on this. If this is a duplicate bug report, I'd like to apologize.

That sounds like it could be the same issue as bug 429 which has now been fixed. However this bug was not specifically about Import Raw. If you could try the Nightly build of Audacity, it should be fixed, but please let us know if the problem remains with your specific test case.
Nightly build available here: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... tly_Builds
The Nightly build does not require "installing" - just unzip the download into a folder and double click on the audacity.exe file to launch.

Import Raw in 1.3.14 doesn't crash on Win 7 x64 with an artificial zero bytes WAV file where all the data was deleted in a hex editor. What exactly do you hope to see with such a file?

Steve: Thanks, I'll give it a try on Monday and report the results.

Gale: I expect to not see the application crash. I accidentally created and loaded such a file and was surprised.. That's why I reported this.

and thanks for doing so, but the idea of importing a zero byte file does sound odd :D
I guessed it must have been an accidental discovery as that's how I discovered bug 429.
