Maybe they seem unsuccessful because you can't hear what you're doing. If you're not mixing and filtering on a reasonably powerful music system, all those corrections we posted are going to be invisible to you.

And yes, if you take away the forceful, pounding bass line, techno stops being techno. The trick is to take away just enough so it doesn't damage the loudspeaker system.
