Why don't my headphones work?

Post by radiocycle » Mon Aug 22, 2011 2:39 am

Hi All,

I wonder if anyone can tell me why my headphones aren't working? I mean, normally when I plug the headphones in, the speakers are muted and the audio is routed through my headphones. For some reason, when I try to hear Audacity using my headphones, the audio continues to play through the speakers rather than through the headphone jack. In all other applications, when I plug in the headphones the audio comes through the headphones, not the speakers. Is there a setting in Audacity that somehow re-routes the audio?????

Thanks for any replies,

radio

Which version of Audacity are you using? (look in "Help menu > About Audacity" for the full version number).
What settings do you have in "Edit menu > Preferences > Devices"

Where are the headphones plugged in?
USB headphones?

Steve,

Excellent! Thanks so much.

I hve 1.3.13 and not usb headphones. But when I checked the 'preferences' I saw that for playback device the default (?) was Realtek speakers. I changed it to Microsoft Mapper and now it works as it should; using speakers when no headphones are plugged in and the headphones when I plug them in. Thanks for your help!
