cannot disable Overdub

Post by vargo » Tue Aug 16, 2011 8:13 am

Using Audacity 1.3.13 Beta (unicode) on Windows 7.
I cannot disable the Overdub. The check box in Edit/Preferences/Recording is UNchecked and the Transpot/Overdub is also off but I still get overdub on the first track when I record the second track That is, both recordings are heard on track 1.

Make sure you are not recording "stereo mix" or "what-U-hear". If you have selected the microphone-input, or the line-input for recording, that's all you should get.

Yes. The Windows settings to record YouTube sound and the settings to record your guitar solo are very different.

This is a tutorial to get to YouTube. To get back, you have to follow the instructions backwards.

Thanks for the replies. However, they do not help. I have selected microphone-input in Preferences/Devices. Also, in Prefences/Recording, Overdub is unchecked and Transport/Overdub is unselected. But I still get overdubbing.

I record on track one, stop, record again, the second time on track 2. When I replay, I hear BOTH tracks, whether overdubbing is selected in Transport or not. Is this a known bug? I have reinstalled the software but that did not help either. Please help!

HUMBLE APOLOGIES TO ALL! I am a newbie and did not understand. My problem is not Overdub. I have just discovered the Mute and Solo buttons on the tracks and that is what I needed to play only one track at a time.

Thanks for taking time out to try to help an incompetent!
