no tags are exported for WAV files
I'm on Windows 7
Audacity 1.3.13-beta (Unicode)
I'm trying to export either WAV or AIFF audio files for CD burning.
Generally speaking, the sound is there, although the tags (Artist, Album, Title, Track#, Year, Genre) are either not included or are not readable by the windows explorer or the properties.
I'm not quite sure how I can include these tags, as I enter them in the metafile editor, but they are not included in the WAV file.
I need help or guidance please.

See: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/WAV#Metadata
But be aware that proper "Red Book standard" CDs do not support metadata.

Re: no tags are exported for WAV files
after looking at the WAV files, I realized that some of the tags are indeed written to the file, but windows somehow ignores them. I tried with an M-PEG file and voilá, the tags are there and windows sees them
Is there a consensus as to what file formats are the best option for audio-CD burning, and for track labeling?
I would like to be able to burn a CD, and see artist and song title on the CD player, and it seems that neither WAV nor AIFF can do that.

Re: no tags are exported for WAV files
In general there is only limited support for metadata tags with WAV files, sometimes non. And even if you do have tags then some applications will ignore them.
Compressed Mpeg files (e'g. MP3, AAC) do offer full metadata support.
Mpeg files are really designed for portable music players as thet typivcally offer a compression ratio of around 10 to 1 i.e. you can get ten times as much music on, but at a price of some of the quality.
For a true CD (one which will play on all players) the you really need WAV files. Some CD players, normally the more modern ones, will play a CD with MP3 files on it but very many won't.
BTW do use CD-R disks and not CD-RW ones

Re: no tags are exported for WAV files
How does the "industry" get their audio files to be fully recognized by the devices - including tags.waxcylinder wrote:In general there is only limited support for metadata tags with WAV files, sometimes non. And even if you do have tags then some applications will ignore them.
Exactly! and the quality is what I'm after too... besides, I had one CD player to freeze up because of M-PEGsCompressed Mpeg files (e'g. MP3, AAC) do offer full metadata support.

That's the general idea. Don't need to be writing on the CDs after filling them upBTW do use CD-R disks and not CD-RW ones
Thanks for the reminder though
So, is there any other "lossless" audio format for CD players that supports my requirements with tags?
I know, I'm asking the same question and seem not to listen ...
Re: no tags are exported for WAV files
The files on a regular audio CD are not "tagged", and most CDs don't have any album/artist/title information on them. (The files on an audio CD are not actually WAV or AIFF either, but they are encoded in the same similar uncompressed PCM format.)I would like to be able to burn a CD, and see artist and song title on the CD player, and it seems that neither WAV nor AIFF can do that.
When you play a CD on your computer the player-software gets a "fingerprint" of the CD and compares it to an online database to find the album/artist/title information. If you are not online and the player-software has never "seen" that CD before, you won't get the information. If you burn your own compilation CD there will be no matching fingerprint in the online database, and you won't get the artist/title information.
There is something called CD-Text, which is extra data written onto the CD with the tag-information. If you burn CD-Text along with the audio data, and if your player-software supports it, you can display the information when you play the CD.

Re: no tags are exported for WAV files
DVDoug has now answered you about CD-Text. If you want to see the metadata in a back-up copy of the CD contents stored on your computer, AIFF or FLAC (lossless, half the size of WAV/AIFF) should suffice, though not all CD burning software may burn CDs from FLAC.RobiBue wrote: So, is there any other "lossless" audio format for CD players that supports my requirements with tags?
