Okay, here's what I did.....
1. Recorded a 25 minute session.
2. THOUGHT I had saved the file; apparently only saved an empty project file?? (I have that but it's empty.)
3. Closed Audacity. (I know, I know...)
I ran a utility program to see if I could find/recover any "deleted" .au files and I found a LOT of them and they're all in good shape. Opened one of them (had to "import raw data") in Audacity and it works just fine but they all (files) seem to be in 6 second chunks and all file sizes are 1.1mg.
How do I get my 25 minute file back?? (If you know how to fix me, please make sure you define any terms you might use that the avg man on the street wouldn't be using to order a pizza, like "compile". It'll save us both a lot of back and forth.) Thanks for any help.

Re: Help A Newbie Out With First Project
What did you call the file/Project? You can get killed if you used punctuation marks in the filename. No dates. The slash marks mean more to Windows than they mean to you and Windows may damage your show.
We should wait for one of the Windows elves to help.

Re: Help A Newbie Out With First Project
Named the file EDDM Audio. No punctuation of any kind. After reading some similarly themed posts in this forum and recalling more clearly what I did:
1. Saved Project.
2. Apparently x'd out of the track.
3. Closed the program.
Am I screwed?

Re: Help A Newbie Out With First Project
You shouldn't be. The project should have saved everything on your screen, tracks, blue waves, clips and all.
We still need to wait for one of the Windows elves. There are recovery processes I don't know about.

In 1.3 partularly the later 1.3s recovery should be totally automatic (it's always worked for me on the later Betas)
There are some instructions at the bottom of the recovery page in the Manual for manual recovery - see: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Recovery
The link it gives to the Wiki recovery page is worth reading too.
