It's very unlikely a line-in (blue) port would be mono, if that is what Carolyn was connecting to as she said.

Backing up the recordings to at least two of a) the computer hard drive b) offline storage on the internet c) an external USB drive will be much safer than just keeping the CD. Don't buy SSDs (solid state drives) though, because they are still new technology and not likely to last very long.

Does the CD you burned play in the computer? If no, try a CD-R at the other end of the pack. If yes. you could try a lower burn speed if your version of iTunes lets you customise that.
