Alesis DM6 Recording

Post by TeenTerror » Fri Jul 29, 2011 1:35 pm

Hey guys, me and my friend were wanting to do some recording with my Electronic Drumset (Alesis DM6 model), and so I DLed the program, and bought a 3.5mm headphone jack. I plugged that into my headphone jack on my laptop and the output port on the back of my module (As I have seen others do) and it keeps recording through my laptop speakers....not through my drumset. I have no idea what to do, and any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks.

;) Oops... The headphone jack on your laptop is an output... The signal comes out (and into your headphones).

You really need a line-input, Most desktop computers have line-in, but most laptops only have a microphone input (and headphone out). If your computer doesn't have a line-in, or if the input isn't swithable between mic & line, you can try the mic input. But you might get distortion (because the levels are wrong), and most mic inputs have poor sound quality anyway.

They lowest-cost way of adding a line-input to a laptop is probably the Behringer UCA202. You can get a USB soundcard, but most of these also only have mic-in and beadphone-out.
