Audacity doesn't recognize keyboard

Hi everyone,

I've been trying to get this working for a few days now and haven't been successful. I am trying to connect my Roland FP-7 keyboard into audacity for recording. I am using Windows7 64 bit and Audacity 1.3.12 beta.

With my previous Yamaha keyboard, I simply plugged a MIDI to USB cable from the MIDI outs of my keyboard into the USB port on my computer. Audacity recognized this and all was well. When I tried the same thing with the Roland, Windows installs the drivers and recognizes the device, but Audacity does not, in fact the device doesn't even show up under the Devices tab of Preferences.

If anyone has any idea how I can make this work please help me out. It worked so well with my last keyboard and I just can't figure out why it doesn't work still. Thanks.

Audacity does not (and has never) recorded MIDI, so I'm unsure how you got it working with your Yamaha Keyboard.

The usual way to record a keyboard is to connect a "Line out" or "Aux out" (or at a squeeze the "headphone out") from the keyboard to the "Line in" of the computer sound card.

Thanks for the quick response. I'm sorry I'm not especially knowledgeable with some of this stuff. So I need to run a 1/4" from the aux output/headphone into the computer's sound card? How exactly do I do that? I'm not sure how to connect something to a soundcard.
