Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Not able to record

Post by Jim Bob » Thu Jul 28, 2011 4:04 pm

I operate Wind. 2007. It has a built in mic. After downloading Audacity I assumed I would be able to hit the record button,start talking then hit stop then hit play and I would be hearing my recording.
This is not happening, where am I going wrong? thanx.

Audacity can only do what the Windows machine tells it to. You need to set your Windows Control Panels to record from your microphone first.

Windows Control Panel

Then set Audacity Preferences to record from the same thing. Then press record. Audacity will record from several different sources inside your computer and you need to tell Windows which one you want. Sometimes Audacity can do the switching by itself, but it's much more reliable to tell Windows.

There is no such operating system as "Windows 2007". Assuming you mean Vista or 7, exit Audacity then go here;
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... es#vistacp

for instructions to get to "Sound" in the Windows Control Panel. Then right-click in the "Recording" tab to show the disabled and disconnected devices, then right-click over the internal mic and choose "Enable". Then start Audacity and choose the internal mic as recording device in the Devices Preferences.
