When you have a configuration problem, please help us to help you by posting to the forum for whatever operating system you are on (for example, Audacity Beta, Windows). If you tell us your version of Audacity and operating system now, we can move your topic.

What source are you trying to record? It's way too loud. Turn down the Audacity input slider on Mixer Toolbar, or the slider in the operating system, or the output knob on the recording source. If the recording source is line-level (for example, from a cassette deck or amplifier), connect it to line-in of the computer, not to the microphone port. Connecting line level output to the mic port would give you the result you have.

That pink connector is not a stereo music connection...

It was designed for a low-level mono microphone or headset like this...

If you're trying to record stereo from your sound system, cassette player or other music system, you might be able to use a stereo USB adapter like the UCA202.

L.S.,
I deleted the version 1.3 from my computer and I downloaded version 1.3.13Beta.
The recording is in order now.
Now I have a problem when removal clicks. I looked it up in 'wiki.audacityteam.org' and there I found out that the clicks should be removed in 2 steps. The first step I can handle, but the problem is that I cannot find the 'click Removal '-selection in the 'Edit menu'. When I give OK, nothing happens.
I hope you have a solution.
Thanks and regards,
Leo van Soldt

"Click Removal" is in the "Effect" menu (if there is an error in the documentation could you post a link to exactly where it is so that it can be corrected).

"Click Removal" has to try and decide which clicks are "noise" and which clicks are part of the intended recording. This is not an easy thing to do, so Click Removal tends to err on the safe side. It will very rarely remove clicks that should not be removed, but will quite frequently fail to remove clicks that should be removed.

When using Click Removal, do not make the selection too small - allow a good few seconds of audio either side of the click(s) that you want to remove.

Another tool is "Repair". This is good for removing stubborn clicks but can only be used on one click at a time. http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Repair

Re: Recording using Beta and Win 7

Hallo Steve,

I couldnot make a link, but I have made a print-screen of the edit menu with its options and pasted it in Word.
The options are in Dutch, but I assume that the order is the same as in the English version.
I tried to copy this print-screen as an attachment, but the extensions in which Word saves the print-screen, are not allowed as an attachment. How can I get the print-screen to you?
I hope you can help me.
Thanks and regards,

If you were looking at http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Click ... oval_steps there was a mistake which said Click Removal was in the Edit menu, but it isn't - it's in the Effect Menu (in Dutch it is under "Klik-verwijdering" in the "Effecten" menu). I have corrected the Wiki page.

We don't need an image, but for future, the best idea is to paste the image into Paint, then save the image as a PNG.
