Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Speakers not recognised

Post by Siliconmana » Tue Jul 26, 2011 7:13 am

Trying to get Audacity to record a stream from winamp.
Win7 64bit/Realtek HD Audio Manager.
I"ve followed all the steps indicated here:
http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel
Still Audacity is not picking up the speakers and l'm out of options for what to try next.
Any help appreciated at this point. Thanks :)

You don't need to do that - you can use the "Disk Writer" output in Winamp. (this can also give better sound quality as it bypasses the sound card and writes directly to disk).

If you really want to record streaming Audio with Audacity, could you post a detailed description (screenshots can help) of what you have got so far with your recording and playback settings in both the Windows Control Panel and in Audacity. (Ensure that you are using Audacity 1.3.13 (see "Help menu > About" to check the Audacity version).

Thanks very much for your quick reply. I've searched on the Winamp website and googled for information on how to access Disk Writer as l couldn't find it within the interface (perhaps because of the skin l am using), yet was unable to find any information relating to winamp v. 5.6
Wondering if you had any links you could post. Thanks!

"Options > Preferences > Plug-ins > Output > "Nullsoft Diskwriter v2.xx [out_disk.dll]"

Followed instructions, thanks, however [Sorry, cannot write streams to disk].

Also, with Audacity recording, l set up both Audacity and Windows settings exactly as described in 1st post. The instructions on that page are easy enough to follow with screenshots too. Problem is it just doesn't work here.

Open up the "Output Plug-ins" options again, select "Nullsoft Diskwriter v2.xx [out_disk.dll]" and then click the "Configure" button.
Check to see what the output file location is, and check that you have write permissions to that location.

Regarding Audacity, is Audacity working other than not recording "Stereo Mix"?
