re equalizing or amplifying

Hi Ive read all of what I thought might be pertinent but cant find answers, so..
I want to raise the volume of sections of MP3 files that have been recorded on Audio Acrobat and Free Conferencingthey are all just 1 track.
1. I have recorded teleclasses, some portions are loud (good volume) and others barely audible. My goal is to amplify those less audible portions or equalize the entire mp3 to the highest level (the loud portions) if possible and be able to send the edited version to participants for them to be able to listen to or download. So 1st of all do I need to save the project somewhere other than in audacity to be able to do this?
2. Is it possible to store the edited version in Audio Acrobat with my others? Or does it have to be stored on my hard drive?
3. I have imported an MP3 file to audacity, hilighted the section I want to amplify or equalize but none of the effect options are active, what am I doing wrong?
4. The level for my portions peak at @ 24 and above, the sections for the guest are much lower. So can I highlight the whole mp3 and then equalize it to the 24 level, raising all to my level. Or can I highlight their sections and do that? Or do I need to hilight and then amplify their sections?
5. By any chance is there a video tutorial showing how to change/raise volume of imported mp3 file.
Many many thanks,
Gail
