sorry steve im new to this yes my pc does have line in im using a laptop wndows vista if i use the line in will it be good sound quality or maybe im better buying a interface

It is unusual for a laptop to have a Line In socket. Usually they only have a Mic In (which is often mono and about 1000 x too sensitive for a line level signal.
If your laptop really does have a line in socket then it should be selectable through the Windows Control Panel, or through a pop-up when you plug something into the socket.

If your computer does not have a Line In, then you will need to use an add-on interface (for example the Cakewalk UA-1G or similar).
Alternatively you could record using the built in microphone, but that will probably sound very poor quality.
