I can't seem to set the recording input levels on Audacity to the right level. The sound is completely distorted & even though i know it's something simple, i just can't work out what to do to have it at the right level. I've searched on youtube & other sites online for how to fix my problem but can't seem to get any satisfaction. I set it up through a tutorial on youtube 1st day & i've done everything advised but am missing just this 1 thing. Can someone please tell me what to do as it's driving me mad...
Thanks in advance.

Ok, i'm not very clued up on computers so i'll try to answer your questions as best i can.
I'm using Audacity 1.3 beta on my laptop.
I'm trying to record a dj mix straight in to the laptop. I'm guessing it's in the right port cos there's only 2 ports, 1 of which being for the headphones.

If you're feeding the line-out signal from the mixer to the microphone socket on the computer that could explain the distortion, see these links ...
