Latency

Sorry if this has been covered before. I've looked at the various solutions and most go the path of recording a click track, then overdubbing that track through an external microphone. Ok so far, but then I read that once that latency has been fixed it will only apply to the inputs on that track. So if I'm recording guitar through an external sound card (Tascam US-122) then that solution wouldn't apply to multi-tracking solely through the Tascam? I guess what I'm asking is, is there a way to solve the latency issue once, that will apply to all subsequent recordings?

Latency contd..

Further to my earlier post, simply playing guitar whilst all set to record (on pause), with laptop speakers on, the latency/delay is there even then.

Near the bottom of the Transport menu - turn off "software Playthrough".

Thanks for that Steve, now I can accompany a pre-recorded track - but the latency is still there when I playback.

See here: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Latency_Test

"Latency" is not a phenomena that affects playback, so I'm not really sure what you mean.

Sorry Steve, guess I'm using wrong terminololgy! Basically, I record a guitar track through a Tascam external soundcard. Then accompany that track with a second track, when I playback the 2 recorded tracks, there is a time lag between the two.

OK. yes that is due to latency. Run the "latency test" to set-up latency correction (see link in my last post). That should bring the tracks into sync.
