I am trying to set up in new 64 bit windows 7.
What 2 do?

The usual Get Out Of Jail card is to reset Audacity to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo in Audacity Preferences. Restart Audacity.

Then go into Windows Control Panels and make sure they're set to deliver the right sound device to Audacity. Audacity is a complete slave to what Windows is doing. Are you trying to record YouTube or other internet sound?

Missed one. You should stop using Audacity 1.2.

Yes I am trying to record internet audio. I am using the beta 1.3 version. I reset to 44100, 16 bit. In preferences I have set recording for stereo, but under device list it says no devices found. Interface Host: MME or windows direct sound? Playback device: Realtek Speakers. In Windows, choices are frontmic, microphone and line in. All three say not plugged in.

Finally got an answer from RealTek regarding missing digital stream as a sound recording device.

Starting up Audacity 1.2 or 1.3, the software indicates "no sound recorder found" or "no sound device available".
No reason was given for how the problem occurred: probably an update disabled the internal audio stream or blocked it.

HERE IS THE REALTEK SOLUTION:

Open the speaker icon on the Task Manager using a right mouse-click or equivalent. A box appears indicating "Sound", and listing Microphone, Front Microphone, and Line in, if the PC has those options.
Right click anywhere on that box. It shows two options: "Show Disabled Devices" and "Show Disconnected Devices". Click in "Show Disabled Devices" and then "Enable" Stereo Mix.

Your Audacity should work fine at this point. Realtek does not disable this feature, but either the manufacturer's updates or a Microsoft Update disables this.
