Output is missing!

Hi all,
I am quite new to using audacity but have started using it to complete my pre recorded radio shows. The first show i produced was an hour in length and after exporting it as an mp3 using LAME it played back fine in mp3 version. However, the second show i put together would not save fully for playback. I have created it as an mp3 again but when i try and play this(using windows Media Player) I get output in patches and only from my headphones sporadically. The show is still playing even when you can hear nothing(the songs have moved on, as has my narration) but it won't play fully, all through and through
When I put the show together(before I creaated it as an mp3) it played back fine, yet after exporting it the playback becomes broken up!
This is really frustrating and I hope you can help me somehow,
Thanks in advance
Chris

Hi all,
I recently started using Audacity to help me create my radio shows. The irst one went without a hitch and after exporting thefile using the LAME encoder it was in the format I needed it to be - mp3.
My second show went together fine. When I tried to export it into an mp3 though, it becomes patchy and broken up! From time to time my narrration and the music tracks play briefly through my headphones but then it goes dead again. I'm listening through windows media player and the show obviously plays through and moves accoring to the time as both my narration and the tracks have moved on when I hear parts of them! t just won't play through fully!
This is really frustrating and I hope someone can help me!
Thanks in advance for your time,
Chris

Do you still have the Audacity Project?
Does the Audacity Project play correctly?
Exactly which version of Audacity do you have? (Look in "Help > About Audacity" for the full version number)
Does the project include Imported files as well as recordings?
Is it some of the imported sections that are missing?
Have you read this?

Hi,
Thanks for getting back to me so quick!
I do have th audacity project still(I still have it open in fact) and it plays perfectly - all parts - in audacity. I am using 'Audacity ® 1.3.13-beta (Unicode)' as this seemed to be the recommended one for my windows 7 os.
In the project I have both narration/recording from a microphone inout, as well as tracks from itunes which I imported as WAV files.
It seems to be both parts(narration + tracks) thta are missing and then spontaneously play before not playing again, but obviously rolling through the rest of the show!
I read the page there from the manual but couldn't find anything obvious that I thought was applicable to my scenario - its a simple setp, just imported tracks and narration, no enveloping, gains or anything!
Cheers for looking into my case
Chris
P.S. I can try and upload both the .aup file and the 'finshed' mp3 version if that might help? Let me know!

1) Check that you have plenty of free disk space.
2) Don't close the project file yet - in fact, make a back-up copy of the project by using "File > Save As" and give it a new name.
3) Check again that the Audacity Project plays correctly, then Export as a WAV file. Does the WAV file play correctly?
4) If the WAV file plays correctly, Export as an MP3 file. Does the MP3 file play correctly?
For test 3 and 4, ensure that no tracks are set at "Solo" or "Mute", and ensure that you use "Export" and not "Export Selection".

I've got one idea of what may have caused the problem:
Look in "Edit menu > Preferences > Import/Export.
What do you have set for "When Importing audio files"? Is it set to "copy (safer)" or "read directly (faster)"?

That is the recommended setting and rules out the idea that I had of why it may have happened.
So no, I have no idea of what went wrong the first time.
Keep an eye open for this problem and write back if it reoccurs. If we are able to reproduce the problem at will then we should be able to prevent it.
