What I meant was for you to make a recording of silence / nothing with the cassette player not connected to the computer.
If you still get the ticking when the cassette player is not connected, then we will know that the problem has nothing to do with the cassette player.

I presume that if you listen to tapes on the Sony without the computer, then you don't hear ticking from the Sony?

AS I thought recording music cd didn't have ticking. But don't want to record cd's. Trying to Make CD's from cassettes.

Hear ticking while rewinding tape. Hear ticking with Audacity Closed and just playing cassette through computer.

== silence. no sound.

Player on & attached but not recording from player. Just recording in audacity has ticking. more voodoo haa..

Well that's pretty clear cut then - If you hear that clicking when using the Sony on its own and not connected to the computer then it's a fault on the Sony. Do you still have the receipt for a warranty repair/refund/replacement?

Really appreciate help.

Tried a RCA cassette player I had in closet. Did all the same testing as before. Same issues but has Humming instead.

Wondering since the players have to be at such a low level so that the recordings don't distort could be a problem. Low volumes may be picking up motor noises from players. Only thing I didn't do yet was change Audacity settings for input/output. Maybe if I lower that and increase player volume. I'll be using the sliders. I'll let you know.

Now back to Sony Player.
Moved recording sliders to 0.2 Increased volume of Player. That may have solved it. Don't think I hear ticking during recording. Perhaps motor sounds were being picked up. Wont know until make CD. Lets hope so.
