recording has ticking noise

Ticking sounds "Just" started when trying to record cassette to CD-R. Trying to record Audio (music tapes). I export songs as 16bit .wav

Successfully made 6 CD's in the past. Cassette Player is only a month old. When ticking noise started thought cassette player needed cleaning. I used Specific cleaning devices made for Cassette Players. That did Not clear up ticking noise in CD recordings.

Tried using a different cassette player to record from. Same ticking noise happened.
Tried recording different cassette tapes. (now all tapes have ticking noise)

Now that I know/how to listen for them Audacity has the ticking also. Not just at the start/end of the recording. Also Not just during silences between songs. Some songs have it in the middle.

My stereo (completely separate device sitting in entertainment center) hears the ticking and so does Win Media player, or anywhere CD recording is played.

Using a Sony CFD-S05 cassette player to create/record audio CD's. Using a Stereo Audio Cable connected to computer and player.

RealTek HD sound card. Having trouble finding specs for it thru computer.
Win Xp home SP3: 4 gig Ram; dual quad processor; free space on HD 195GB (less than 1/4 used)

Understand Audacity has "Clean up" tools but Don't want to use/worry @ editing again with noise removal tools since didn't have to before. Also using these Clean Up tools will make editing time alot longer. (Some songs have it in the middle).

Why was everything ok before but Not now? What could be creating the Ticking noise from cassette tapes.?

Could you upload an example recording - preferably fairly short and in Flac format - somewhere on the Internet (such as a file sharing site) then post a link so that we can download and examine it.

Just to help out with troubleshooting, you don't have to actually make a tape or recording to hear what the sound channel is doing.

Turn everything on and connect like you were doing to make a recording, but don't press play on the player. Open Audacity Preferences and select Recording > Playthrough. Close the panel. In Audacity, right-click on the red recording meters and select Start Monitoring.

Audacity will show you and let you hear what the sound channel is doing without you either rolling tape or going into record. Turn up the speakers and see if you hear the ticking.

Don't have file-sharing site to use. Having trouble with file size to upload a .wav in forum. Is there another way to get .wav or .aup file to someone?

Hear and see ticking mostly in 1 channel. Thinking it's the left since I hear it on speakers. (recording as stereo)

Tried doing Recording > Playthrough. This gives echo sound.

More voodoo going on-- noticed while at Desk Top with No programs open, had player on but Not doing anything. Just sitting there turned on -- I heard ticking out of L computer speaker. Speakers are Not old. Maybe @ 2 years and are Logiteck X-140

Strange recordings have ticking now but Not before.

Was hoping to solve WHY the ticking started to begin with. I was able to record other CD's off cassette tapes with no issues until now.

"sendspace.com" sometimes has pretty aggressive advertising (not a problem if you use Firefox as your web browser and use ad blocking) but you don't need to set up an account and you don't need to submit an e-mail address or remember any passwords. We can go so far with descriptions, but it is often a lot more helpful if we can see/hear the actual problem.

Yes it does, as yes that's very weird.

Try making a recording with the everything set up as normal, but without the cassette player connected. Do you still have clicking?
If you are using a laptop computer, try recording while running on batteries (power supply not connected). Do you still have clicking?
Try making a recording and adjust the recording volume up and down (either using the recording level control in Audacity, or the sound card control panel). Does the volume of the clicking go up and down, or does it stay at the same (full-scale) level?

I can't record cassettes without using the player. It is pugged in by a power source plug like you would use on the wall of your room. I'm on a desktop so no batteries to worry @ there either.

Try making a recording and adjust the recording volume up and down (either using the recording level control in Audacity, or the sound card control panel).

Everything gets louder or softer as adjust sound.

The player also plays CD's. Guess I'll see what happens if I try to record from a music cd. I'll try that now.
