I bought a new computer. On my old computer I ran audacity and I selected wav as my input device and then I would press record then go to Windows media player and play a song.....and then I would save the recording as mp3, and so on.

On my new computer, how do I do this? I have no options under the input device area....how can use wav as my input device?

Am I missing something?

Thanks

Ken

Where is the "song" that you want to record? Is it a file? Is it an Internet "Radio" station?

Mainly the song is on my computer, it can be anything. I have even recorded off of Youtube.
It was whatever came through my system. I was able to record, and now I am unable to.

I didnt know if it was because of the sound card in my old system vs the one in my new one....

Just want to be able to recorded whatever is going through like i used to...

Thanks for replying...

Ken

For files that are already on your computer it is better to Import the file into Audacity.
If you have FFmpeg installed then Audacity 1.3.13 can support a wide range of different file types. http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... tallffmpeg

For YouTube, if you use Firefox there are plug-ins (Add-ons) available for Firefox that allow the videos to be downloaded. The downloaded files can then be imported into Audacity and Audacity will extract the audio from the file.

For recording other streaming media or other sounds that are playing on the computer, then the ease of doing this depends on the computer, the sound card and the sound card drivers. Windows 7 often makes it difficult to do. See here (Recording Stereo Mix) for more information: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel
