ok , maybe i'm overlooking something here. Let's say i bring in three clips and i want to fade the ends out and the beginnings in. So far so good. Is there a way to MOVE the clip (track) down the timeline, to put them end to end, without using cut (ctrl-x) and then paste (ctrl-v) ? Seems like i should just be able to slide a selection down the line somehow.
thanks

Re: MOVING a track
That's what the "Time Shift" tool is for - the little button with a short horizontal arrow with a head at each end
See this page in the manual: http://manual.audacityteam.org/man/Tools_Toolbar
And be sure to reselect the "Selection" Toll afterwards ...
