Audacity 1.3.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

The images you see are the recording waves, once it get to the end of a screen you'll notice it goes to a single line & @ the end of the recording "Stop" it becomes a single line (no sound recording) it seems to drop the recording waves every few seconds, but to listen to the recording is the problem! THERE IS NO RECORDING TO PLAYBACK!!~!!!~ The file tells me I have a recording of ( (2.55 mins 29.5mb) amount of bytes & that's it, there seems NO SOUND RECORDING MADE !

I export it as a WAV & the file is there in my directory the file plays but there is no sound coming out.

Test 1.
Try temporarily shutting down your anti-virus program (disconnect from the Internet before trying this test).
Then make a test recording.

It looks like something is removing the temporary files as soon as they have been created (which is very strange)

Do you have any "automatic clean-up" utilities running?

Test 2.
Open a new Audacity Project and "Save As" to "My Documents" (or anywhere that you definitely have write permissions).
Then make a recording into that project.

Suggestion Tried Closed antivirus & closed Net. Made another recording same results.

When trying to save "Project & save project as an .aup It tells me only Audacity will open OK, then I get a message "Could not save project. Perhaps C:MaxDocumentsmy stufflotus eaters is not writable or the disk is full."
But it saves as a data file & I can export it as a wave to this folder but play back is still without sound & no clean up software running. Pity there isn't a way I could send you the .wav.

V 1.2 works to the point of save project to .aup then export as a .wave but even with volume full up the recording play back on a stereo or DVD is very light & has to be cranked up.

Not doing to well are we?

What exactly do you mean?
An Audacity Project has 2 parts. There is an AUP file and a _data folder.
If you open Audacity and immediately use "File menu > Save As", then navigate to a writeable location, give the project a name and click OK, there should be a file and a folder produced in that location. For example if you name the project "test", then the file will be called "test.aup" and the folder will be called "test_data".
Is that happening? (this is crucial and could be an important clue as to what is going wrong).

Confirmed, saved project as "test" & it creates a data folder, + an (.aup) file, but when asking to save project this "Warning" box appears stating

You are saving an Audacity project file (.aup).
Saving a project creates a file that only Audacity can open.
To save an audio file for other programs, use one of the "File >Export " Commands

So if I read you correctly I should be still saving the project as *** then open the (*** .aup) file then export afterwards as like V1.2 to a (***.wav) file?

What I was suggesting in "test 2" was that you "Save" and empty project (a ".AUP" file and a "_data" folder are created) and then after the file and folder have been created, start recording. This will cause Audacity to write the audio data directly into the "_data" folder rather than into the "C:Program Files (x86)Audacityaudacity_temp" folder.

Have you tried exporting as a WAV file?

Thank you, Yes I have now & it all works, I just wanted to make sure there wasn't another step before I export.

Thanks

If you could stay with us for a while - I'm interested to know why it was not working before.
It should not be necessary to save the project before recording, but it appears that the audio data is being deleted from the "C:Program Files (x86)Audacityaudacity_temp" folder as soon as it is created.
I don't use Win 7, so perhaps you could help me out here - do you have any idea why that may have been happening?
