Hi. I would like to record the radio that I am listening to online on mp3 format ie: streaming audio through my laptop. I have Windows 7. I'd be grateful for a step by step guide as to how to do this. Thanks.

Unfortunately recording streaming audio on Win 7 can be far from simple to describe. So much depends on your sound card and sound card drivers, but there is a page here that gives a lot of information on the issue: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Mixer ... trol_Panel

If it is possible to do so, it is a better solution to download the music rather than record it as this avoids sound quality loss due to passing the audio through the sound card. There are several plug-ins for Firefox that allow downloading streaming audio from many sources, including YouTube.

You can use Stereo Mix. What you do, is rightclick sound, and click recording devices. Make sure stereo mix is enabled, if not right click recordng devices and click show disabled devices. Once that's sorted, click stereo mix. Turn levels up but don't click listen to this device as there be a big noise. Once you have turned levels up, press Ok. Then go back to audacity, change to stereo mix and press record. Play audio you want ad see if it records.

Fascinating. Most Win7 installs are missing Stereo Mix. We gave up recommending people search for it.
