I'm trying to transfer a vinyl using audacity but everytime I do the timebar freezes and I have to wait until the records finished. Only when I check what was recorded, it made it shorter. I'm trying to transfer Runrig - Loch Lomond vinyl, and was recording b-side which is 2:30 but when I used Audacity it was only 1:45. This has happened with old version as well.

The Old....what? What Audacity version are you running?

I was running 1.3 beta when this problem occured. I downgraded to 1.2.6 to see if it was cause of a beta issure but it happened on that one as well.

I was confused because you posted in the Audacity 1.2 forum.

Stick with Audacity 1.3. 1.2 has serious problems.

How much hard drive space do you have (in MB) and when was the last time you defragmented and error checked the drive? Do you like to collect plugins and did you apply a bunch of new ones? Do you like to run and leave a bunch of applications (Photoshop, Excel, Word, Email, Windows Media) open while you work?

Do you like Skype?

I defrag and it worked. I only have audacity open. What happens it records but timebar keeps freezing and the length (when it's recording) isnt in sync with audio. I finally did Runrig - Loch Lomond single and Clannad's Harry's Game. But now same problem has restarted. It's not because of little space as I have over 420 gb free. I would choose soundsoap but audacity is free.

Which one? Look in "Help menu > About Audacity". The range is from 1.3.1 to 1.3.13 and may be ANSI or Unicode.

Nope my stereo. I got a mini jack to minijack cable as my stereodoesn't have phono plugs. I use Stereo Mix to record as microphone doesn't work.

Good. Now pick a number between 1 and 13
The current version is 1.3.13, so that's the one that you should be using.

That's not ideal. Does you computer have a Line-level input, or is it a laptop computer?
What's wrong with the microphone?

Look near the bottom of the Transport menu and ensure that:
"Software Playthrough" is OFF (not selected).
"Sound Activated Recording is OFF (not selected).

How much shorter? Are there bits missing? If so, which bits?

Go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Tracks" and ensure that "Update display while playing" IS selected.

What's wrong with the microphone?

It's a laptop computer. When I record, it doesn't record anything, just a line. It only works in stereo mix.
