So I bought a brand new keyboard and also an staples mini stero cable. Then i plugged the big to small top on the stereo cable. However when i tried to record my music all it says is no "Error while opening sound device" then i checked in the preferences and all it said was "No device found". Can someone help me with this please?

What sort of Keyboard / cable/ computer / operating system ....
Model numbers are helpful, as are precise details of what you are plugging in to where.

Seems to me my desktop doesn't work, any help. For one I put the cable jack in my headphone output. Also my keyboard is appearing as a headphone.

What audio inputs (physical jack sockets) are there on your computer? Is it a laptop computer?
When you plug something into an audio socket on the computer, is there a pop-up notification that something has been plugged in?

To record the keyboard, you need to plug an audio output on the keyboard to a "line input" on the computer. Look on the back of the computer and there may be a line input there. The headphone socket is for playing music, not recording music. If there are color coded sound card sockets on the back of the computer, you need to plug the keyboard into the light blue one.

Which connection are you using on the keyboard?
