The Letter 'Z'

I have not been able to use the letter 'Z' within this application for either song titles or group names. Nothing happens when I press the key, so I substitute an 'S'. I'm using WindowsXP, and do not have this problem with any other application. Anyone seen this little bug creep in on them?

It's not a bug, although it's gaining on it.

Audacity traps certain keystrokes for use in keyboard shortcuts. Sometimes the process doesn't go so well. I believe Audacity 1.3.x stores its preferences in a file called audacity.cfg. Trash that file or rename it so Audacity has to make a new one. Tell us if that fixes it.

Please note that if you find that file and trash it, Audacity will return to First Birthday. All your presets will be gone.

That's okay with the presets. The 'If I find the file' is the key phrase there! :0)

You should find the file in C:Documents and Folders<your_user_name>Application DataAudacityAudacity.cfg

I think it's official. Given this poster didn't write back, we can assume his Audacity straightened up and started working. The next posting up from this one with similar problems responded correctly to trashing the config file. So that's the standard fix for this problem. It's worked many multiple times.

So now we need a standard tool to get people out of that "Check Audacity Device Settings..." thing.

?

Is the Z bug still present ? I thought it is far past trouble (1.2.x perhaps).

The .cfg pathname is standard (and described somewhere on wiki.)
But I think
- it is different in XP and W95. And again might be different in Vista (and future Win versions again)
- can be derived from Windows 'variables' (and therefore different in some network installations and future OS version)

(I can try to verify if needed.)

And I almost overlooked the difference

Hang on folks! I've been busy this weekend doing some other things, as I'm a worn out traveling microwave radio engineer. I'm going to give this a go, and let you know what I find. Thanks so much for your help! You're great!

I can't believe this. I don't have an Application Data Folder on that computer, one of six in my office! I'm trying to find out why from Dell. This is goofy! :o

Well, I have no idea what happened. Dell support was useless, as normal support desks are. I reinstalled Audacity, but that file still didn't show up, and I still have no Application Data folder. The Z isn't that big a deal, except I like to fix things. Frank Sappa just doesn't look right on the screen!
