I've found one fix for 1.3.5 crashing during noise removal profiling. I use [Edit] a conferencing service for an obvious use. It records audio at a minimal WAV sampling setting of 8KHz. While I've been able to use 1.2 to remove noise (sorta, get a reverb effect everytime for an unknown reason); 1.3.* always crashes till I changed the "Project Rate" back to 44100 after I opened the WAV file. It seems to be working fine now. Is there a possiblity the Noise Removal utility like many PhotoShop plugins is written to be used at a specific sampling rate? So, if the project rate is below a critical threshold it crashes from bad data?

It shouldn't be, however, thanks to your suggestion I can now reproduce the problem.

Linux, Audacity 1.3.5
Set "Project Rate" to 8000 or 16000
Select a portion of audio
Use "Noise Removal > Get Noise Profile"
Audacity crashes and closes.

Repeat the above with project sample rate set at 44100 or 48000 and Noise Removal works correctly.

Workaround:
When opening audio files with low sample rates - manually change the project rate to 44100 or 48000 before using Noise Removal.

I get the same thing. It worked once, the first time. Now it crashes every time when I click to get the sound profile in step one.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled after cleaning out my registry and I get the same crash.

I converted my 2.5hr MP3 file to a 16-bit Microsoft WAV file, as suggested, to no avail.

One note: both files were recorded in mono. Do you think there is a problem with the Noise Removal filter when it's working on a mono file? That's the only consistent thing I've read on this thread.

Anyhoo, any help would be appreciated!

EDIT: I made the track stereo and it still crashed. So far, it has not worked again in the following file formats: MP3, WAV and Audacity project file.

EDIT: I tried the workaround listed above and it did not work.
