:( Win XP/I hve installed Audacity.1.3 beta twice with the enclosed disk supplied with the product, The disk was slow and appeared not to be reading, I couldn't find the files so I attempted to install again but the program had part nstalled on the first attempt. I then downloaded lame for MP3 and the accompaning FF file I had a problem with the program (wouldn't record) so I tried to remove the program and reinstall but the program did not delete and I now have Audacity files duplicated. The instuction manual was totally different from the online information which was confusing. Please how do I clean up my computer and reinstall audacity or fix the prgram files so the prgram will work. In anticipation Twiggy

Have a look in the "Add Remove Programs" section of the Windows Control Panel. If Audacity is listed, uninstall it.

Then go to the "Program Files" folder and look for any folders with "Audacity" in the folder name and delete those folders.

Then go to:
Documents and Settings<user name>Application Data
(you will need to make hidden files/folders visible http://www.microsoft.com/resources/docu ... x?mfr=true )
and delete the Audacity folder.

Now you can re-install.
Download the latest version of Audacity 1.3.13 from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/
The versions of Lame and FFmpeg should also be the current versions from the official Audacity web sites:
http://audacityteam.org/help/faq?s=install&i=lame-mp3

:D Thank you Steve, I have created quite a monster of a problem, it is the hidden files that have been confusing me and the r/t messages worried me when I went into the Audacity file and tried to delete everything. I am now repairing my laptop hopefully with Tuneup and will try and startup the program on my desktop when I have reinstalled the MP3 software. I tried it on my laptop because the program wouldn't work on the desktop it's been a nightmare actually I never had this problem with my AV Labs Music Studio but the problem with that is you cannot hear the tape and my player auto reverses. I felt I was upgrading but now I am not so sure. Wish e luck and thank you Twiggy
