select tool does not select

select tool does not select
my select tool worked the first time I used Audacity, but has not worked since. I use Audacity for story audio, not music. When I want to select a dead section to delete the select tool does not work.

Are you deleting short selections less than a second? If so make sure you have not got "Snap To" checked in Selection Toolbar at the bottom.Richard McDonald wrote:my select tool worked the first time I used Audacity, but has not worked since.
