Why INSTALL lame_enc.dll file?

Hi.

Why doesn't it work to just tell Audacity where lame_enc.dll is located? Even if I have the correct version of dll file, it still nags me that it isn't correct version.

If I reinstall windows, and Audacity where installed on a separate partition (just for aplications) then I can use Audacity without going through the install procedure. But this isn't true for lame_enc.dll file.
Before windows was reinstalled, lame_enc.dll (working version) was located in Audacity/Lame directory. After I reinstall window, Audacity just keep telling this is a nonvalid version of lame_enc.dll. WTF

[edit]
I just installed the Lame 3.98.3, and it still doesn't work.

I got this errormessage:
---------------------------
Message
---------------------------
You are linking to lame_enc.dll v3.98. This version is not compatible with Audacity 1.3.13.
Please download the latest version of the LAME MP3 library.

OK

Thanks

You are urged strongly to download and install only the latest lame software, and get it from the same place you got your Audacity...

http://audacityteam.org/download/

Older versions of the software will not work, even if they have the same filenames.

Also, this is the software that comes in both .exe (executable) and .zip (archived) versions. If one doesn't work, try the other.

This is assuming you got your Audacity from that web site. If you didn't, that could be part of the problem.

I downloaded Audacity from the main website. I've installed version 1.3.13 beta.

I have installed the dll file from the suggested web site and installed it. Still no good :(

In Audacity, go to "Edit menu > Preferences > Libraries".
Click on the "Locate" button for "MP3 Library".
Navigate to the correct version of Lame and select it.

Still not working

Thanks for quick answer. I do this, but I still getting this error:

I KNOW that this is the correct file. I don't get any version information from file properties in windows explorer, but time stamp on the dll file is 19. mars 2010, 12:25:44. I guess that would prove it's the correct version.

I usually use the ZIP version from here http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/ (libmp3lame-win-3.98.2.zip) and I've never had a problem with it.
Download this version and extract the lame_enc.dll file into the Audacity program folder.

Hi. I'm currently using another PC where this hasn't been an issue (I think). Tomorrow I will test this spesific file on the computer that the issue persists.

I just noticed that the dll file in the zip container has file stamp 28.11.2008, wich is older than I expected.

Thanks.
